Industrial air

Seismics, Pressurised Air, Breathable Air

Compressed air is used in highly diverse applications:

Seismic measurement: targeted blasts of pressurised air at the bottom of the sea play a crucial role in geological underwater research for locating offshore oil and gas fields. Here reciprocating compressors are used.

Breathable air: air is compressed to more than 200 bar and filled in bottles for divers or firemen. Reciprocating compressors are used for air compression.

Compressed air production: many industrial processes involve the use of pressurised air, e.g. air to operate instruments, for cleaning, etc. Both reciprocating as well as screw compressors are used in compressed air production.

Seismics

Special ships are used to look for oil and natural gas below the seabed. They are equipped with compressors that blast air under high pressure. Echo reflections from the seabed are then measured and mapped, and provide an indication as to the existence of any oil or natural gas fields.
